Cole undergoing Pompey medical

Cole undergoing Pompey medical
Well this could be ok for us, getting on a bit, but Redknapp can get the best out of players.

Pompey complete Fernandes signing with more on the way?

Another one in on loan with a view to by, if fit at the end of the season, with more to come over the next 24 odd hours. I love this bit before the transfer window closes (Manic) who are we going to get. And now for a RUMOUR or two.......

Johnson sidelined by ankle injury

Dam the first real injury of the season for Pompey (along with Mendes) as Glen Johnson has a bad ankle. It seems he may be out for a wile. This is somthing Pompey are good at so who is next. With Lua Lua out also with an ankle problem and Keily and Ashdown out all in pre season it must be nice for them to have a new face around the treatment room.

Boro prodiction

Tonight I think Pompey will draw with Boro at the Riverside 0-0 will be the score.

PEDRO MENDES STATEMENT

PEDRO MENDES STATEMENT

Portsmouth Football Club have issued the following statement on behalf of Pedro Mendes:

"Following the incident during the game at Man City on Wednesday night, I can confirm that I will not be taking any personal action against Ben Thatcher. I have received a written apology from him. As far as I am concerned the personal matter between us is now closed and I just want to fully recover and move on.

"However, I am aware that the FA have charged the player for the nature of the challenge and I really hope that they will make the right decision on his punishment. I only saw the TV replays on Thursday night and was shocked by what I saw. I think football's governing bodies need to do everything within their power to ensure that this kind of foul play is eradicated from football. That kind of behaviour is just not acceptable and I leave it in the hands of the rulers of the game to act appropriately.

"I am still undergoing scans and tests as a result of the collision and am not sure at this stage when I will be given the green light by my neurologist to return to training. I am hopeful I will not be kept out of action for too long although I will not be 100% sure of this until the results of all the tests are known.

"I was told that Portsmouth Football Club have been inundated with messages of support and concern over the past few days, not just from our fantastic Pompey supporters, but also from Manchester City fans and neutral football supporters across the country. I have been really touched by that and would like to thank everyone who has contacted the club to pass on their thoughts. I would also like to thank Pompey's medical team who took care of me on Wednesday night, as well as the medical staff both at Man City and the Manchester Royal Infirmary. I also want to thank my teammates and everyone at the club for their tremendous warm support and all my friends and family who have constantly been calling and will always be in my heart.

"The focus for Pompey is now on our next game at Middlesbrough on Monday. I was probably one of the last to find out that we had in fact earned a valuable point in Manchester during the week and although it is early in the season, we are in a great position and we must carry on the good work to keep the momentum going."

Thatcher dropped & charged by FA

This is good news , but I will be glad to get back to the Footy soon.

A no footy Saturday

Today I have to sit and watch the scores come in on sky,(Picture of Jeff Stelling above from Soccer Saturday) and hope all the results go our way. Since we got promoted a few years ago the traditional three o'clock kick off is very few. So this Saturday I have no Pompey to watch and the same goes for next week as well dam that Sky tv ;-). But Pompey are live on Sky this Monday at eight pm can't wait.

Thatcher apologises to Mendes

Manchester City can confirm that Ben Thatcher has personally written a letter to Pedro Mendes to apologise to him following the tackle in the match last night.

Chief Executive Alistair Mackintosh has this morning telephoned Portsmouth's Chief Executive Peter Storrie to enquire about Pedro's health. The two clubs share an excellent relationship and everyone at Manchester City, especially Ben himself, wishes him the very best.

Ben Thatcher says: "Immediately after the game I tried to find out how Pedro was. I have written to him today apologising for what happened."

The Club does not condone such action and the matter has been dealt with internally by Stuart Pearce.

PEDRO MENDES CONDITION UPDATE

Pedro Mendes

Pedro Mendes will be returning today from Manchester accompanied by the club medical personnel after spending the night at the Manchester Royal Infirmary for observation and scans. Mendes will continue to be under medical and neurological supervision during the forthcoming week.

Pedro was involved in a collision with Manchester City's Ben Thatcher during the 0-0 draw at the City of Manchester Stadium last night. The impact knocked Pedro unconscious and he received medical treatment both pitchside and in the stadium medical room before being taken to the Manchester Royal Infirmary for further assessments and care.

Portsmouth Football Club wish to thank all the medical staff and stewards at the City of Manchester Stadium for their efficiency last night as well as the Manchester Royal Infirmary staff who dealt with Pedro in expert fashion.

We would like to thank all the supporters for their kind messages of concern and best wishes and wish Pedro a speedy and safe recovery.

Thatcher faces FA & police probes

Ref do your job.............

On Saturday the ref was the worst I have seen for some time, stopping the game every tackle that bloody whistle must of been glued to his lips. But the game last night Mr Gallagher missed a hand ball and Thatcher only got a yellow for that attack on Mendes so time for more shouting at the ref at Fratton Park open your eyes you £$%^^ &&^%*)( "£!%%$$% (*&^%&^%%!!!!!!!!!!

Forearm Smash (Manchester City) 0 Portsmouth 0

Well this was a good draw for Pompey at Manchester, last year we would have come away with nothing. It seems our defence is much better this time round. As I do with all away games I listen to the match on 107.4 the quay and what a good show they put on. OK so its a bit one sided well its all Pompey to be frank. Back to the game once again it sounds like a draw was a fair result so Pompey are now second in the league. Ok it's only the second game but it's better than last year at this time. Now all the best to Pedro Mendes that has to be one of the worst things I have seen in football, with the F.A not able to do anymore to punish Thatcher for that forearm smash, that is a FIFA directive that stops the FA from doing trial by TV on players, good old FIFA idiots. That must only leave the Police to get involved I don't like that idea but the player must be delt with. I think football has got softer over the years, so it is good to see strong challenge, But not bloody kung foo..... Next match Monday at 8 pm live on Sky time to get the beers in the fridge.

Man City: Weaver, Richards, Dunne, Distin, Thatcher, Sinclair, Barton, Reyna (Ireland 66), Samaras (Miller 71), Vassell, Dickov.
Subs Not Used: Hart, Dabo, Danny Mills.

Booked: Sinclair, Thatcher.

Portsmouth: James, Johnson, Primus, Campbell, Stefanovic, Taylor, O'Neil, Davis, Pedro Mendes (Hughes 52), Kanu, Mwaruwari (Todorov 65).
Subs Not Used: Jordan, Thompson, Pamarot.

Booked: Davis.

Portsmouth 3 Blackburn Rovers 0

Well got to Portsmouth around midday and went to the pub The Travellers Joy. The reason for getting there early is to get a good parking space, so I can get out quick to beat the traffic. The weather was a bit changeable but mostly dry.

So in the pub I was entertained with Sheffield United V Liverpool on the TV. With a pint of John Smith’s and a copy of the Portsmouth News to read I settled down to a pre match drink. When my mum arrived I knew it would not be long till we went to Fratton. My mum had decided to wear the same coat as me, but as I am not a girl that did not bother me.

Once in the ground the buzz and atmosphere began to grow. The sun came out just in time for the game to start. The large new screen at the away end was a very good addition to the entertainment, bit it was the new tune Pompey came out to that I liked. Not the old Portsmouth by Mike Oldfeild but real bell chimes loud and proud to the tune of Play up Pompey spine tingling moment indeed.

The game was fantastic, not just that we won but we were efficient, calm and kept the ball well. Blackburn like to kick teams of the park, but with Campbell and Primus in defence very little got through. Blackburn were ok but we outclassed them in the end, with Toddy and Kanu scoring three goals between them and a clean sheet with James in goal. Two Blacburn players received red card for there efforts so in the end all went well.

Pompeygary’s Man Of The Match Campbell Strong and calm.
Pompeygary’s Worst Man Savage Can give it but can’t take it

Trip down memory lane part one

This will be the first of my favourite games at Pompey from the past. I will do one or two a mounth if all goes to plan, and this weeks game is from the 24 April 2005 what a game it was. I try to get a perspective from the other side.
Pompey 4 - Saints 1
By Adam Leitceh from the Dily Echo

BELIEF IS such a precious thing in football - whether you are chasing titles or trying to avoid the drop. Saints don't seem to have any right now.

I certainly refuse to buy into the theory that the Saints players don't care or they don't try.

They do, but their shattered confidence and almost non-existent belief is dragging them down and threatening to provide Championship football next season.

When you watch Saints play, you see a group of players without confidence or conviction.
continued...

Several of them look like they would just like to be mathematically down or mathematically up - anything to end this torrid campaign.

It has been torrid throughout, that's the best way to describe it.

And it's taken it's toll on quite a few who look like shadows of the players they once were.

Quite how Harry Redknapp is going to prevent this team getting relegated is difficult to see right now.

There are three matches left and it's hard to imagine anything less than three wins doing the job.

But to buck the pattern of an entire season right at the end is not easy.

Saints have only won five league games all campaign, so to suddenly imagine they can put together three back-to-back victories is hard to see.

The most important thing is that they believe they can do it. But there's not much evidence of it.

It's been said before and it's worth repeating - this stage of the season is not about having the best players.

It's about having the most determined and the best mental conditioning to stay up.

West Brom, Norwich and Crystal Palace at least have some sort of mental strength.

They have the mindset that they are battling to stay up and to scrap for everything.

Saints yesterday looked like a team who were resigned to their fate. At the moment, they're hardly going down with a whimper, let alone a fight.

If there's one man who can lift them then it's Harry Redknapp, but just how they can be picked up again and again is hard to see.

Just looking at the logic of this result it means their fate is not now in their hands.

Saints could conceivably win all three of their remaining matches and still go down.

But they're going to need to do that to at least give themselves a chance.

The passion of Redknapp's return to Fratton Park was hardly hate filled like many predicted. It was more Portsmouth fans gloating that they felt they'd relegated Saints.

For their part Saints were dreadful. Claus Lundekvam and Andreas Jakobsson had a shocker at the back and Pompey ran riot in the first half.

The midfield hardly got into the game, the strikers had no service and even Antti Niemi made mistakes.

Saints got off to the worst possible start when Lomana Lua Lua was more alert than Lundekvam and sprinted into the area where he was brought down by Niemi.

Yakubu made sure it was 1-0 to Pompey after four minutes from the penalty spot.

Lundekvam failed to pick up Arjan De Zeeuw from a Patrik Berger free kick on 16 minutes and it was 2-0.

But, with Saints rocking, Henri Camara handed them a lifeline with a goal out of nothing on 20 minutes.

However, that hope faded two minutes later when Niemi came charging out for a long ball, couldn't clear and Lua Lua impressively hooked into the net from distance.

Just five minutes later Pompey got another when Lua Lua fired in off the post with a brilliant shot from outside the area.

It could have been more and probably would have been had Lua Lua not been taken off injured just after scoring.

In the second half Pompey were content to play keep ball while Saints were even more depressing, unable to make any inroads, apart from a Nigel Quashie shot turned wide by Jamie Ashdown.

For the fans who had to stand and take the abuse and taunts from Pompey fans this hurt.

For the fans who have to go to work this week and take the abuse and taunts from Pompey fans this hurts.

Their belief is shattered now too.

Somehow Redknapp and his players have to get theirs back - and make everybody believe again before it's too late. (It Was :-) pompeygary)

Seven days to go.

Not long now till this Blog goes into full tilt at my church above.Play up Pompey!!!!!

David James joins Portsmouth

James has 34 England caps and has previously played for Watford, Liverpool, Aston Villa and West Ham. With Kanu seen at Fratton Park for the Porto game we look like we are going to get more in.

Dorchester Town 1 Portsmouth 3

Havant & Waterlooville 3 Portsmouth 1

Portsmouth (second string) lost to local non-league side Havant and Waterlooville at Westleigh Park in front of 3700 fans. That also included me, I for one don't believe results matter in pre-season games, but it does give confidence to the team and squad. The first goal was scored by Dean Holdsworth on 15 minutes for the home side. With Dean Kiely, Andy Griffin, Linvoy Primus, Andy O`Brien, Richard Hughes and Svetoslav Todorov in the team you would think that Pompey would do well againt Havant & Waterlooville. Tha second goal came from Svetoslav Todorov to equalise on 32 minutes. Then two more goals from Baptiste 83, Poate 89 ended the game with a win for the Hawks. Well Pompey are off to Dorchester tomorrow with a stronger team.
