Goodbye

This is the last post for this blog ever. I have had a good year supporting my team, from the moment the ref blew the whistle in the first game against Blackburn to the last against Arsenal, it has been a real ride, all the drinks in all the pubs and bars and eating at GunWharf. The most fun for me was shouting at the ref’s assistant they do deserve it, and I must say I have enjoyed my time with Mum my partner in crime for the season. So thanks to all who have read this blog for the past year, thanks for the comments online and face to face.

Well this is it the last game of the season. And it is against Arsenal at Fratton Park. First the pub, as this was voted the best pub of the season, it was time we returned this pub did not disappoint. Real beer happy to see you staff he treat you well home and away fans mixing together, a good pub to end the season with.

The game well for most it was not much to write home about, compared to Blackburn the first game of the season. But I must say that both side seemed not to want to win, Arsenal with a second string side and Pompey without Campbell again injured I suppose. However, with lethargic legs on the pitch, and minds reflecting on what might have been this season, most of the play was laboured and uninspired. That should not have been the case for Pompey, who still had a slim chance to finish above Bolton and Reading to take the final Uefa Cup spot. But do we want it ? well I would take it but I don’t think we are ready for Europe just yet. So a dullish nill nill draw was on the cards but Pompey did get the ball in the net, referee Graham Poll - in his last Premiership match - controversially ruled the goal out after consulting with his assistant. And I got a little annoyed with him the dam bounder!!. Before this James made a fantastic pen save from Baptista after Linvoy tripped Emmanuel Eboue.

I took the bus down to Gunwharf, first time in a long time since I have taken a long bus ride. The journey was ok not to packed so I didn’t have to sit next to the weird one. Once I arrived at the Hard interchange I got of the bus and had a look at where the proposed new football ground would be, as I looked round I saw more Pompey fans pointing and scratching their heads at the space between the train station and H.M.S. Warrior mmmmmm lets see what happens with that in four years. At this point I found out I left my hat on the bus I loved that hat. As I got to Pompey early I text Mum to meet me early and so we went to The Ship Anson for a pint and a chat about the ground and the game coming up. We then went into Gunwharf for another drink and sat outside under a parasol and people watched for a bit. Still thirsty we headed for The Honest Politian good name but time caught us by surprise and we only had twenty minuets to get to the bloody ground on a hot day it got a bit sweaty. We got to the ground a few minuets late!!!!!!!!!!!!! But it didn’t matter we won!

The game was very good with Liverpool playing a second string it was up to us to win and we did. We got a goal on 27 Liverpool keeper Jerzy Dudek's misjudgement allowed Benjani Mwaruwari to chip over him and nod in for Pompey's opener. James was also the unlikely catalyst in helping Pompey take the lead with a lovely kick from his area to Mwaruwari to score. Kranjcar, who had come on for Matthew Taylor, was left in acres of space as he chested down a long diagonal Lauren ball and slotted into the far corner with the outside of his right foot.Liverpool came back in the second half when Hyypia headed in a Robbie Fowler corner. But Pompey held on for the win.

NEW STADIUM PLANS UNVEILED

Pompey have unveiled the plans for a spectacular new £600million waterfront football stadium and residential development on reclaimed land in the city's dockyard and at Fratton Park.

The new stadium is being designed by leading international architects, Herzog and De Meuron. The Swiss-based firm is responsible for both the Beijing National Stadium, which will be the centrepiece of the 2008 Olympic Games, and the Allianz Stadium in Munich.

The stadium is planned to be constructed on a site adjacent to the historic Naval Dockyards, the Gunwharf Quays retail and leisure centre, Portsmouth Harbour Station and ferry terminus and the Hard interchange bus station. It will comprise of approximately 13 acres of land reclaimed from the existing waterfront.

The joint venture between Pompey and Sellar Property Group will create a superb 36,000 all-seater stadium, over 1 million square feet of waterfront apartments, a 1.5 acre new public space together with a mixture of complementary leisure uses, restaurants and cafes.

Pompey and Sellar have also announced proposals for the redevelopment of the Club's historic 17-acre Fratton Park site, where Pompey have been playing football since 1899. It is anticipated that planning consent for the Fratton Park redevelopment will be secured at the same time as permission is granted for the waterfront development.

A phased development of Fratton Park will create a low to medium-rise scheme in keeping with its environment. The current plans are for approximately 750 homes comprising a mixture of houses, flats and affordable housing units. Part of the site, including the current car park and adjacent land, could be developed while the team continue to play at Fratton Park.

The club and Sellar are forming a joint venture company in which both Fratton Park and the new waterfront development will be held, enabling appropriate development finance to be secured to complete the overall project. It is expected that creation of the residential and commercial elements of both schemes will contribute to the development. It will also generate several thousand jobs during the construction period and many hundreds of permanent jobs post completion.

Planning applications for the proposed development will be submitted in the autumn, following consultation with stakeholders. Subject to receipt of the necessary consents, reclamation work could get underway by Summer 2008, and construction of the new stadium the following year. It is anticipated that Pompey will be playing in the new stadium by 2011.

Peter Storrie, Pompey's Chief Executive, said: "This will be the most spectacular stadium, set against the backdrop of the harbour and the English Channel befitting the club's history. The club will be playing a big part in the regeneration of the city and our fans will have the very best in terms of facilities and amenities as well as an excellent viewing experience.

"Portsmouth Football Club is moving into a new dawn with the backing of owner Alexandre Gaydamak and these are very exciting times for the club both on and off the field. The new stadium, along with plans for the club's new training ground at Titchfield, is proof of where we want Pompey to be - playing at the highest level and in a stadium that is reflective of a top Premiership side."

The proposed scheme is in the great tradition of English football stadia that have historically formed an integral part of their communities and social urban fabric and the location of the new stadium remains within the city of Portsmouth where more than three-quarters of the club's fan base lives.

The development's sustainability and green credentials are also underlined by the stadium's location which will ensure a majority of supporters arrive by public transport. Apart from parking for club officials, players and VIPs, there will be no public parking as part of the scheme.

Supporters will be encouraged to use local bus, train and ferry services to the stadium and, as part of the proposals, it is intended to create a new covered bus terminus, the roof of which will form the substantial new public space to the front of the stadium. In addition there will be plans to create suitable "park and ride" centres enabling fans to have easy access to the stadium.

The residential element of the waterfront development, comprising approximately 1,500 apartments, will wrap around the eastern, southern and western sides of the stadium. On the southwest waterfront side the development will rise to 22 storeys reducing to 11 storeys in the northeast corner as it adjusts in scale to take into account the city and the historic dockyards. The sweeping bowl shape of the scheme will, together with the Spinnaker Tower, change the city skyline and continue the regeneration of this part of Portsmouth.

While the scheme aims to reclaim approximately 13 acres from the present harbour, water will continue to play a prominent role as it is intended to replace the small boat moorings facility on the landward side of the development and enhance the wider public realm by including the beach. It is also planned to create a new dock area to the north of the site enabling HMS Warrior to be re-sited but equally accessible to the public.

Alan Ball passed away at his home late last night of a fatal heart attack. This is a sad day for English football ass well as for Portsmouth and Southampton fans. Alan is one of the main reasons Portsmouth Football Club I still in existence today. Without him no Mandaric no Redknapp no Gaydamak.

Last Thursday I got a note at work that Linvoy Primus was coming to talk to us about his Faith in Football charity at 2.15 that day!!!! All of a sudden we had lots of the women at work queuing up to get a kiss and autograph and a few men to!!!!!.

Well it was a hot day in Pompey. And I bet the Gordie’s found quite tropical compared to Newcastle’s cold North Sea wind. I arrived at my usual time and started my longish walk to the pub in Southsea. Popping into one or two shops in the lovely Highlands road not one national chain to be seen that’s what makes places like this unique. So enough of the tourist talk lets get down to the pub. Having been here a short while ago I knew what to expect, and as I went to go through a locked door to get in the pub, my mum in the pub waved me round to another door on the side. Once I got my drink (Mum left a fiver under an ash tray for my beer) I sat down in the heat, I found the mp3 juke box was on free play but I could not stay long enough to listen to my choice of song and it was Slipknot to dam. On the way to Fratton Park the heat got to us so we stopped off for a swift half at The Bold Forester mmmmm beer.

So to the game Pompey have not won against The Toon since we got up a few years ago and I felt now was the time and the three points will boost our hopes for Europe. Pompey dominated for large periods and took an early lead when Benjani turned superbly inside the box and fired home then Matthew Taylor fired in from 30 yards to make it 2-0 and what a goal he only seems to score fantastic goals most of the time. Emre pulled on back from the spot after James Milner was fouled by Dejan Stefanovic. So we had another win that’s two in the last three and it makes up for that game against Watford. So we are back on T.V. Sunday against Aston Villa this is a ground we have not won at since the early 70’s so time for a change me thinks.

Well it was another bloody late kick off but that did not matter as Pompey put a third win over “United” at home in the last four. But it what seems like years it was time for a home game, so off we went to the pub and what a good pub it was. The pub is one of five in Pompey that shows Prem football illegally at 3pm on Saturdays power to the people! .The only thing that was missing from the pub was Newcastle Brown ale, so a John Smith had to do.
So to the match and what a match with Manchester United losing to Roma and looking a little bit tired we went for their throats. At one point Rooney was bundled over in front of me so I lifted my shirt to show I had a big belly to. At that point the man on the radio commented that “a man in the crowd has just shown his beer belly as if to say look Rooney I have one to” Pompey went ahead when Edwin van der Sar could only parry Benjani's shot and Matt Taylor followed up to score the Pompey fans went mad and me. United pushed forward but David James denied Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs United looked more frustrated as the game went on, before Rio Ferdinand put Taylor's pass into his own net to put Pompey 2-0 up. But almost instantly John O'Shea replied from close range but James made sure of victory with a superb last-gasp save from Alan Smith. With two BIG tackles from Primus and they were perfect that will get Rooney back for diving against us at Old Trafford.

So after so many weeks Pompey have a home game at Fratton Park. But it’s a dam late kick off bloody Sky! Well I can’t wait for this game against Manchester United not that it is just a home game but that we always play better against good opposition and we usually do ok against Manchester United at home. Not that I think we will win though but I don’t think we will lose either well I don’t know! I do know one thing I can’t wait for my first bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale. This is one of those games where the away support only has to come as far as Guilford down the A3 to Portsmouth ;-)

Ian Pearce defied injury to limp forward and snatch an injury-time equaliser for Fulham.
Portsmouth led through Niko Kranjcar's curling 20-yard effort after four minutes and looked destined to revive their hopes of a Uefa Cup place.

Pompey boss Harry Redknapp marks the 5 anniversary of the beginning of his management at Fratton Park when he takes to the dug out at Fulham on Saturday afternoon.It will be 5 years to the weekend that Redknapp first took over the Fratton Park reins with a 2-0 defeat at Preston on Saturday 30th March 2002. The match saw debut boy Eddie Howe hobble off and striker Svetoslav Todorov sent off in only his second game for the club. Peter Crouch had been sold to Aston Villa for £5m in the week leading up to the match. So his short stay at Southampton is part of this 5 years then? Play Up Pompey!!!!!!!!

Former Pompey defender Andy Awford will get his chance to finally bid farewell to Pompey later this month when Fratton Park hosts a testimonial match in his honour.He will be back at Fratton Park on Sunday March 25th, along with an array of his former teammates and colleagues, as a modern day Portsmouth XI take on two specially selected teams over 90 minutes.Kick off on the day will be 1:30pm.Will I be going I don't know yet? Well as it is my Birthday week this will be a bit short, also I and the rest of the Pompey faithful have a football free weekend dam and blast it!

Mum took me for a meal at Gun Wharf for my Birthday, and I can’t remember what the place was called bit it was a US style place with old pictures of New York and other cities on the wall.

To get to Gun Wharf I took the bus from where I left my car at Fratton Park and it was only £1.50 for a single, but I still don’t like public transport don’t start me on that one! After the meal and a beer we set of to the marquee at the back of the North stand at Fratton Park, on the way we stopped of at a student bar mainly to use the toilet but it was a great pub I think it was called the dog and the one eyed duck or something like that, I think we may come back to here again for a drink. So to the Marquee I was impressed with it two big screens with Sky sports News on and some good beers to drink. The place was decorated with large pictures of Pompey in play and all in all it is a good place to come for a pre match drink.

The game went the predictable way with a Chelsea win, but Pompey made them work for the three points. Pompey enjoyed plenty of possession, but Andy Cole and Kanu both saw headers magnificently saved by Petr Cech. The Pompey fans were revelling in Chelsea's deficit, as chorus after chorus of 'Where's your title gone?' rang around Fratton Park as the game kicked off. Drogba struck the opener just after the half-hour mark, volleying Ashley Cole's left-wing cross into the ground and past Portsmouth goalkeeper David James. So Pompey could not stop the unstoppable Drogba, but how bad was Shevchenko and I would have to say this was the worst I have seen Chelsea play since we got promoted but they still beat us as Chelsea raced up the pitch and Ashley Cole headed into the box for substitute Kalou to slip past the advancing James. So next is Reading away time to beat the Royals.

Mendes set to miss rest of season

Pedro Mendes is likely to miss the rest of the season after undergoing an ankle operation.
The Pompey midfielder tore ligaments in his right ankle at Blackburn last weekend.

In a bid to repair the damage, he went under the surgeon's knife at North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke yesterday.

Now he is facing at least eight weeks on the sidelines.

The likelihood is he will be out for the remainder of the season and the push to get into Europe.

Oh dear and we have Chelsea Saturday. Play Up Pompey.

With the lack of games over the past few weeks I have been left to watch DVD's of Pompey to keep me happy. The club have put plans to Fareham Borough for a 'highly specialised' training facility in Titchfield, west of Fareham and on the radio the club say things will be in place within a year.Three professional-size pitches, four other pitches, two three-quarter size pitches and two mini-soccer pitches are in the proposal as well as an indoor training pitch facility.Changing, catering, press and other ancillary facilities are proposed to be sited in a converted tithe barn on the site.So Pompey are starting to catch up with the rest of the Prem and most of the other divisions to, now whats happening with the stadium :-)

A few weeks ago Mum said that she would like to have a word with the players before the next game now if that threat is not enough to put them into shape then Europe is a no go.

This was a good day, except the match didn’t kick of till a quarter past five! My mum came over to my house at 12:30 and we soon set of for Pompey. On route to the pub we decided to have a bite to eat, so I suggested we go to Weatherspoons in North End but as we got to the door bloody place was full, so on we went to find somewhere else to eat. The bridge Centre in North End was the place we ended up eating, egg, chips and beans was my lunch lovely, mum had cheese and onion roll oh yes and a cuppa.
So to the pub Football on one telly and Rugby on the other, so we go from one pub with no sport on the telly to another with two sports on two telly’s nice. Good atmosphere but strange to be watching other football scores come in on the telly at 3 o’clock onwards. So after our drinks we headed for the ground down dog shit ally (a lane that passes Fratton Park just watch where you tread)
So to the game 2007 has finally arrived we won a game and it was well deserved. With goals from Mendes and Kanu we finally made it past the 40 point mark be precise 41 and in seventh place. Pompey took the lead when Pedro Mendes, who later went off with a foot injury, fired in a stunner from 20 yards. It was as good as the one he scored last year against who? Oh yes Man City, his time on the pitch was cut short at the end of the first half when the England international caught the heel of Mendes and was shown a yellow card. The Pompey player writhed in agony on the pitch before he was carried off and replaced by Lauren. The second half City got one back with Corradi with a header. The game seemed to be swinging the way of City, but Pompey boss Harry Redknapp's tactical substitution that saw Andy Cole replaced by Kanu, swung the match back in the way of the home side.
The Nigerian had only been on the pitch for 10 mintes but was alert enough to latch on to Johnson's clever reverse and poke in what turned out to be the winner. I went home happy yes yes yes.

Portsmouth and West Ham are facing a possible points deduction after breaching Premiership rules by fielding ineligible players, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claims that a number of top-flight clubs are questioning whether the appearances of Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez for West Ham and Manuel Fernandes for Portsmouth were in violation of Premiership Rule U18.

Rule U18 states that: "No Club shall enter into a contract which enables any other party to that contract to acquire the ability materially to influence its policies or the performance of its teams."

This covers players owned by a third party, like Mascherano and Tevez, who are part owned by Kia Joorabchian, and Fernandes, who is partially owned by a private company called Global Sports Agency.

One possible breach of the rule is the widely-reported claim that if Manuel Fernandes played three consecutive games for Portsmouth, a sell-on clause in his contract would be automatically triggered.

Everton, who have taken Fernandes on loan for the remainder of the season, are one club reported to be demanding the points from their clash with Pompey earlier in the season, in which Fernandes featured.

The Premier League has insisted that they are unaware of on any breach of the rules.

"With what has been presented to us we haven't allowed anything that would transgress our rules," said a league spokesman.

But the Daily Mail claim they have come into a possession of a letter warning West Ham they risked a points deduction if they failed to produce the necessary documents for the transfers of Tevez and Mascherano in the summer.

The letter, obtained by the Mail from the Premier League, says they have contacted the 20 top-flight chairmen this week and offered them a 14 day amnesty to produce any contracts which breach rule U18 and were not disclosed when the player was registered.

West Ham released this statement on their official webiste: "West Ham United FC is fully co-operating with the FA Premier League in response to their recent letter to all Premier League clubs on player registration.

The Club is in the process of providing the relevant documentation as requested and is confident that this matter will be settled in the very near future."

Well this was a long day for me, I started work at 5.45am and at 4.15pm when I finished work I was a bit tired. So into Portsmouth I went, I took some of my dinner from the night before and ate it cold in the car when I parked up but I was still hungry so I went to the shop and got a pasty lovely. So to the pub this was a surprise the décor and atmosphere has changed, this pub was and had a more comfortable feel to it but now it seemed to be run by a bunch of older chav types and it was not the landlord as such but the bar staff and locals. Also the flat screen TV had bloody Richard and Judy on and it took one of the punters to ask them to put Sky sports on the TV another pub without sport on the box well this is England.

The game itself was much better than the last home game with Charlton, we passed much better and it looked like we could score on most of our attacks. With Portsmouth entering the game hoping to move into fifth spot and Boro looking to earn a fourth consecutive league victory, a lively clash was fully expected. With our old boy Yakubu playing he just had to score against us but he didn’t phew!. In this game both sides played well under the flood lights of an evening game the atmosphere is always better don’t know why. But the game drifted to a stalemate that neither side appeared too unhappy with, as Middlesbrough earned their first-ever Premiership point at Fratton Park. So it was another point for us and now we are on the same points as we ended last year so no relegation this year.

Well this day started of with me getting to the pub to find it bloody closed, after walking all the way to Southsea!!!!!! Well with the use of my mobile I met my mum at a pub that was open near the Kings Theatre it is called The Goose At The V & A. Well this was another pub I used to go into a few years ago for a couple of drinks with my mates and I think it had a different name then and I think this used to be a Police Station! Well the match was very poor, we seemed to have no fight in us, but we should have won against Charlton who are on a poor run, don’t get me wrong we deserved to have lost but to a team in the bottom three. It seemed all the fans attention was directed at Thatcher who earlier in the Season had sent Mendes to Hospital. This all comes from when Thatcher hospitalised Mendes with a challenge which the Portsmouth midfielder describes as "barbaric". Pompey have signed Arsenal defender Lauren on a two-and-a-half year deal. This is a good one for us to get, he has not played to much in the last year bad knee you see.

The Club will be opening its Fans Experience Marquee, where supporters will be able to enjoy a drink before and after the match. For those of you wanting to keep up-to-date with all the sporting news, Sky Sports will be shown on screens inside. There will also be drinks promotions, as well as plenty of entertainment.

Well the last day of my holiday was taken up with a football match, and I can think of no better way to end the holiday. So to the pub and what a busy pub it was ….bloody busy, I got a drink and got a good seat to watch the football on a BIG screen. When my mum arrived the pub was even busier and to top that one of the bars tills went down but we got our drinks.
To the match this was a poor game both teams looked tired and as the match went on it looked like it was going to be a draw that was until Benjani Mwaruwari put Portsmouth ahead with a right foot shot from 20 yards out that was aided by a Callum Davenport deflection. There was little festive spirit early on as Hossam Ghaly was left with a bloody mouth after receiving a kick to the face from Noe Pamarot - one of four ex-Tottenham players in the Pompey Hossam Ghaly lost four teeth ouch!
The second half was better untill Spurs got a goal back with a good header from Steed Malbranque the rest of the game wes a real mess with both sides failing to score. It did hack down with rain at times getting us wet and the lino to and ask him if he wanted a hat to keep his bold head dry? But he shook his head and we had a laugh with that, so we got a hard earned point at home to keep us in sixth place so its to the FA Cup at Fratton Park this Saturday against Wigan and I hope we have a good run in that.

Well this was a long day indeed, with getting into Pompey at ten in the morning to get the last bit of Christmas shopping done, and then some brunch at Trotters before we set of to the pub.
The pub was as I had expected another real mans pub, it has been a while since I had had a pint in this establishment 15 years showing my age!
So to the game well it got of to a bad start when Sheffield United’s Hulse scored on 4 mins to start what can only be called our worst 45 minuets of the season at home. I have to give it to Sheffield United they made us look bad, out of the three teams that came up this year they deserve to stay up the most. Also I like Neil Warnock passion comes to mind and he don’t care what he says. It was not until the second half that Pompey came to life and our quality came through when Mwaruwari ran into the box to make Sheffield United’s defence panic with a hard low cross they put into there own net Kozluk was credited with the own goal.
So now all season I have been waiting for Sol Campbell to score and he did with an unmarked header on 54 mins, soon to be followed up with Pamarot on 68 nins that was his second goal in as many games for the defender not bad considering he is playing out of position at the moment. There was a flicker of resistance from Sheffield United, and James needed to be alert to prevent substitute Claude Davis providing his side with a lifeline.
So another 3 points in the bag for safety, yes I know we can make Europe but lets get to 40 point first. So it’s West Ham next Play Up Pompey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was an awesome match that we lost, how good it was to see Arsenal in such good form. I hope this is not the score line on Saturday!!!!!

Arsenal reached the FA Cup semi-finals with an impressive win over Portsmouth.

Jose Antonio Reyes volleyed against the bar early on, before Thierry Henry pounced on a deflection and fired home.

Arsenal added two more in the closing stages of the first-half, as Fredrik Ljungberg curled the ball past Shaka Hislop and then Kolo Toure struck.

Henry and Ljungberg then each scored a second goal, before Ayegbeni Yakubu and Matthew Taylor rattled the woodwork and Teddy Sheringham's flick found the net.

Despite the slippery conditions, Arsenal quickly began to weave their intricate passing patterns.

Prominent in many of those eye-catching moves was Reyes, who almost gave Arsenal a second-minute lead when he rattled the crossbar with a wonderful left-footed half-volley.

The young Spaniard then almost got on to the end of Patrick Vieira's inswinging cross from the right.

Reyes also played a part in Henry's goal as he made a dangerous run into the Portsmouth box.

Petri Pasanen managed to block Ljungberg's pass to Reyes with a sliding tackle, but the ball broke kindly for Henry, who finished with aplomb.

Arsenal continued to open up the Portsmouth defence almost at will.

Ljungberg and Henry combined with a slick one-two allowing the Frenchman to cut the ball back for Edu, whose low shot was well saved by Hislop.

Vieira also went close, powering a header narrowly wide from a corner.

In the closing stages of the first half, Arsenal emphasised their superiority with two more goals.

First Edu slipped the ball between Pasanen and Linvoy Primus to Ljungberg, who calmly curled the ball past Hislop.

Kolo Toure then capitalised on some slack Portsmouth defending from a corner allowing the Arsenal defender to shoot low past Hislop.

Arsenal's finishing masterclass contrasted sharply with Portsmouth's lack of confidence in front of goal, notably when Ivica Mornar took too many touches and the danger passed.

The second half was only four minutes old when Henry scored his second with a clever goal that displayed his quick thinking as he sent a low curling shot through a thicket of players to surprise Hislop.

Ljungberg also claimed a second, when his deflected shot gave Hislop no chance.

As Arsenal eased up, Yakubu headed against the bar, Taylor hit the post with a low shot and then Sheringham, who had come on as a substitute, flicked the ball over Jens Lehmann.

Well this was a very good day for football fans and Pompey fans alike. My mum, myself and 20000 others watched Matt Taylor score a 45 yard goal. At the time he kicked the volley towards the Everton goal I looked at the flight of the ball and thought is that going to go in, no no way!!! But it bloody well did and the Pompey fans went bloody crazy.
The day started of at the pub The White House a pub I have not been in ever, that is strange for me as I have been to most others in Pompey especially as it’s near to Fratton Park, and I did once live down the road. I liked the pub more of a MANS pub swearing and belching (nice) and the bar staff wore Pompey tops, but no football on the TV but at least I had my two bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale.
So to the game and what a game (well the first half anyway) Everton were poor, ok they had a few out but for a team of that stature I expected more fight. Most of the game was a blur after the Taylor goal except for the Kanu goal and what a goal that was too. So Pompey are back up to 3rd and I have to rub my eyes every time I look at the League Table. So it’s The Gunners next Play Up Pompey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was a game I knew was not going to be easy, Aston Villa was the first team Pompey played in the Premiership and we won that one 2-1 and we went on to finish 13th that first year.
So the contented pig was a quiet and new smelling place that did not like people with hats or caps by order of the management?, so I was asked to take mine off, not much Pompey but the sofa was nice to sit on.
So to the game well I did think this one was going to be a draw and it was. The first half was very good until Villa got a pen when keeper James, who was fortunate to be given only a yellow card by referee Uriah Rennie before Barry thrashed home the spot-kick.
The second half was a screamer first Taylor headed the ball home from a Mwaruwari cross then James made a fantastic save from a Villa free kick, he jumped from one post to the other to push out the ball. We then got our own pen when Barry handled the ball in the area, so Taylor got his second with a well struck pen. It all looked like we would get all three points until Angel got the second for Villa to draw the game to add to the drama, Mendes was then shown red by referee Rennie for a second bookable offence, a foul on Gavin McCann. So we are down to 4th still going good.

Well this the second game in 7 days at home and I really believed that we would get 3 points today, as it was we did but is was not easy.

Having Mum staying over we headed out to Portsmouth at 11:30 in the morning. This was to beat the traffic as it gets increasingly busy as we get closer to Christmas. As the Artillery Arms was the pub for the match we headed of after parking the car, on the way we popped into an old fashioned sweet shop selling sweets by the quarter a real trip back in time. As there was a café next door we went in for a cup of splosh (tea) and it was a real Pompey café with Pompey posters and free copies of the News the local paper in Pompey to read.

After the café we set of for the pub, I haven’t been to this pub for about 8 odd years not changed that much, we got a table in front of the telly with a drink or two and watched Manchester City beat Fulham like we should have done last week.

The game against Watford was hard, Watford like to pull shirts, time waste and hoof the ball up up up in the air its lots of long balls. A team as a hole they are ok but no quality so they play the war they can with the resources they have at there disposal.

We conceded a goal from a corner on the right, DeMerit powered home a header from the edge of the six-yard box after Pompey goalkeeper James had come for a ball he was never going to get, but Kanu ensured the home side went in all square at the break with a clever finish on 44 minutes. So it looked like a draw was on the cards as I expected Watford to hold out for a point. until LuaLua beat them from the spot after Kanu had been pulled back by DeMerit. I don’t watch pens we have always scored since I stopped watching them so Lua Lua put another one in, after he got upset with stuff written about him on the net (and it was not nice) it was good to see him score.

So it’s Newcastle away on Sunday so a no football Saturday this week.

Heard today in the pub from a mate who doesn't normally spout
bullshit. He's got it from two different sauces, that, B & Q in
Fratton is losing money by the bucket load, and B & Q are looking to
move out. It would seem that the council are keen to see the stadium
close to a rail link and have no objections to the larger stadium
here, because the stadium could have its own rail access...apparently
loads of analysis and dicsussions have already taken place... this is
the reason why Sacha has bought the Chemring site and supposedly got
interim permission for a ticket office come superstore. The only
niggle is that Pompey want to use FP's site for parking and the
council aren't too keen.
So more rumours about the stadium, I would like to see it stay in Fratton but we just need a new one soon.

Well of to Gunwharf Quays for a meal before the game, so I met Mum under the Spinnaker Tower. So with no breakfast well very little we set of to The Old Customs House Pub. With a pint of HSB (not the same now Fullers brew it now) and mushroom stroganoff it set me up for a good day. After the meal we set of for Fratton Park with one stop on the way (well it was a long way) for another drink at The Wine Vaults lovely.

So to the game, well I have never seen Pompey have so much domination and not win. I have to give it to Fulham (who have not won against us since we got promoted) they played well, but for a team of that quality and us at home we should of won it easily. The only difference between the two sides was Antti Niemi Fulham’s goalkeeper he did some fantastic saves and some poor finishing from Kanu and co.

One might have guessed that Pompey would enjoy a bit of luck after they had marked Armistice Day with the presentation before the game of three survivors from the D-Day Normandy landings, but when Knight put one in on 57 mins after we had been top dog on the pitch and hit the post and bar I said that we would regret those misses. That was until Cole came on to score at 74 mins on his backside to give us a point. So 2 points dropped but we have 20 points in the bag this side of Christmas which is nice. By the way I got home late because I forgot where I parked the car silly me.

Pompey seem to be in the process of narrowing down their options for a new stadium, with a 40,000 capacity ‘ to turn Pompey into a top six club’ the minimum requirement. The current favourite is still reportedly the King George V playing fields at Cosham...

According to The News Chief Executive Peter Storrie hinted that the King George V plan – despite its inherent problems of a restrictive covenant on the use of the site and rampant NIMBY-ism – is the preferred option at a meeting of the Portsmouth Environmental Forum this week.

'We have new owners who have invested a lot of money in the club and have aspirations about putting it in the top six of the Premier League, which means the club needs a stadium which can host European football,' he said.

'To do this we need a 40,000-seat stadium, not the 35,000 we are limited to on the current site. We have even spoken to the council about the opportunity of bringing internationals here and World Cup football should England get it in 2018, which is all very exciting.'

However, Storrie maintained his preferred option was to stay at Fratton Park and he only said on the record that the King George site ‘had been considered in detail’ proposing to replace lost playing fields by buying some of the current IBM site at North Harbour.

Fratton Park remains an option, as does Tipner, although Farlington has been ruled out, to the relief of many fans given the fact it wasted 18 months back in 1993-94 when a planning inquiry finally turned the site down on the basis that it disrupted the habitats of migrating Brent geese nearby, among other things.

Tantalisingly another option has also been suggested, although its location hasn’t been revealed, other than it is close to one of the three existing road routes into the city. A cursory glance at the Portsmouth map suggests there are few open spaces currently large enough to accommodate such a development.

One obvious candidate would be the playing fields and allotments around Great Salterns playing fields – given its proximity to the Eastern Road – or, alternatively, the Fratton Goods Yard site, with some judicious re-location of some existing businesses could potentially provide the space the club craves.

The club plans to have a short-list of two by Christmas, but seeing as this project is now entering its 34th year – former Chairman John Deacon wanted to relocate the club to the old airport site in 1973 – fans won’t be holding their breath for an early conclusion...

Havant @ Waterlooville my local non-league team have drawn a league team in the first round of the FA Cup and tht team is Millwall at home. So even with a good stadium the old bill have said they will have to play the game at Fratton Park, not that Havant's ground is no good it's outside the ground the truble could start with those lovely Millwall boys. Well it's time to play Manchester United. As a rule we don't win at Manchester but this is our best chance to get something as I think this is our strongest side ever. Every year I use this game as a guide to see how far we have come every year. I like Manchester United I don't hate them like a lot of football fans do, it's just those little kids who run around with Man U tops on ( Now being replaced by Chelsea tops lately ) that hack me of but I will go into what I hate in football on a later post. This was a game that I had a feeling was going to be hard, but no it was all to easy. The day started with a long walk to the pub in North End after I parked the car near Fratton Park. The pub was very nice and big with 3 large screens, one above the bar and the other two at each end. This converted church was a very good conversion, serving food and coffee and yes beer.

Tha game was the best I have seen Pompey play for a while, Reading played ok but far to weak a club with a Prm stadium and traing but a poor team.It was Reading's fourth consecutive loss, and boss Steve Coppell will not be encouraged by a defence who looked nervous throughout. Mwaruwari had two golden chances that even my mum could score!!!!!
and a hand ball by Mendes how did the ref miss that!!!

This was a good win, now we are up to forth and on 19 points after ten games.Only 21 points to go then!!
